I had a bit of difficulty finding CanoScan Lide 35 drivers to download, but eventually I found a link on a UK website and reinstalled the drivers, leaving everything else as is. That solved the problem for me, except of course as you said might happen, the buttons on the scanner itself no longer work. Andrew just asked about the same question regarding the LiDE 35 please see my answer Andrew hope this helps enjoy!
Thank you for these drivers. My canner is a CanoscanF. My scanner was working yesterday but I tried installing a few drivers and TWAIN to scan with image capture at dpi. After installing VueScan, my scanner has stopped working. After many mystical unpluggings and restarting and shutting down etc. I have pleased the scanner gods and now it is working.
